Senator Dinesh Kumar Proposes Legal Permission for Iranian Petrol Trade in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Senator Danesh Kumar has proposed that the government should allow people in Balochistan to legally bring and sell petrol from Iran, claiming that the move could make petrol available in Pakistan at around Rs 300 per litre.
Speaking during a Senate session, Senator Kumar presented suggestions aimed at creating employment opportunities for the people of Balochistan and reducing fuel prices for consumers. He said that if the government gives regular permission to residents of Balochistan to import and sell Iranian petrol, it could provide economic relief to both local communities and the wider public.
According to the senator, legalizing the trade would also help save Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, as the country spends a large amount of dollars on fuel imports. He argued that Balochistan’s people could play an important role in supplying cheaper petrol to other parts of the country.
Senator Kumar suggested that instead of treating Iranian petrol trade as illegal, the government should bring it under a proper legal framework. He said this could create jobs in Balochistan, reduce smuggling-related issues, and help regulate fuel movement through official channels.
He further stated that people in Punjab and other provinces would also appreciate Balochistan’s contribution if cheaper petrol becomes available across the country.
The proposal comes at a time when rising fuel prices remain a major concern for citizens, transporters, and businesses. However, any formal decision would require approval from the federal government and relevant regulatory authorities, as fuel imports involve trade policy, taxation, border management, and international considerations.
So far, the government has not announced any final decision on Senator Kumar’s proposal.
