Islamabad: Pakistan marked an important milestone in its digital transformation journey as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Google’s first office in Pakistan in Islamabad. The inauguration was attended by senior Google representatives, government officials, and other dignitaries.
A nine-member Google delegation led by Wilson White, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy, also met the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister, Wilson White, Natalie Baker, and other dignitaries jointly unveiled a plaque to formally mark the opening of Google’s local office.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing digital transformation and the government’s Digital Nation Pakistan vision. He said the government is working to strengthen IT infrastructure and expand youth training opportunities in areas such as information technology and artificial intelligence.
Google’s local office is expected to deepen the company’s engagement with Pakistan and support existing initiatives focused on youth upskilling, digital development, and helping local businesses access international opportunities. Wilson White said Google sees strong potential in Pakistan’s young population and plans to expand programs in IT, AI, gaming, and other digital fields.
The development also builds on years of collaboration between Google, Google for Education, government institutions, and organizations working on digital skills and community initiatives in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister welcomed Google’s decision to establish a local presence and expressed hope that the company would continue expanding its role in Pakistan’s digital economy.
