Firing incidents in Chichawatni Circle could not stop while Circle Police is busy playing the role of silent spectator
Chichawatni citizens have demanded that the IG Punjab take strict notice of the police’s failure to take effective action on the incidents of killings, firing and gang war.
Chichawatni’s police force is part of the Punjab Police, which has a long history dating back to British colonial rule. The Punjab Police was formally organized in 1861 under the Police Act of that year, replacing earlier policing methods used by local rulers and the Mughal administration.
Early History
During the British Raj, Chichawatni was a small settlement, and law enforcement was primarily managed by local darogas (police officers) under the British system. The region was known for its dense forests and criminal hideouts, requiring strong police efforts to maintain law and order.
Post-Independence (1947-Present)
After the partition of India in 1947, Chichawatni became part of Pakistan’s Punjab province. The police system continued to operate under the Police Act of 1861, with modifications over the years. As Chichawatni grew into a major agricultural and trade hub, policing efforts had to evolve.
- 1970s-1980s: Police presence increased due to rising population and infrastructure development.
- 1990s-2000s: Modernization efforts, including new police stations and better equipment.
- 2010s-Present: Digitalization, community policing, and improved response mechanisms.
Current Structure
Chichawatni now has multiple police stations under the Sahiwal District Police, including:
- City Police Station
- Saddar Police Station
- Kasowal Police Station
- Ghaziabad Police Station
- Shah Kot Police Station
These stations handle crime prevention, traffic control, counter-terrorism, and community policing efforts.
