Apple Reportedly Delays 5G Activation for Pakistani iPhone Users

iPhone users in Pakistan may have to wait until 2027 to access 5G services, as Apple is reportedly not ready to immediately enable 5G support for the country. According to reports citing officials from the Ministry of IT and Telecom, Apple has informed Pakistani authorities that it plans to activate the 5G option for iPhone users after assessing the local market size in 2027.

At present, 5G services are not expected to be available on iPhones in Pakistan, even as the country moves toward the launch of next-generation mobile internet. Officials said Apple is evaluating the Pakistani market before making the feature available for local users.

High Mobile Phone Taxes Impact Apple’s Market Size

One of the major reasons behind the delay is believed to be Pakistan’s limited iPhone market. Heavy taxes on imported mobile phones, especially premium devices such as iPhones, have reduced Apple’s market size in the country. This has reportedly made the company cautious about enabling 5G support immediately.

While iPhone users may face a delay, compatible Samsung and other Android smartphones already support 5G services in Pakistan. This means many Android users may be able to benefit from early 5G availability before iPhone users receive official support.

Pakistan Moves Ahead With 5G Rollout

Pakistan’s telecom sector has already taken a major step toward commercial 5G services. Earlier this year, the government completed its 5G spectrum auction, selling 480 MHz of spectrum and raising around $507 million. The auction was carried out to improve internet speed, network quality and digital connectivity across the country.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority confirmed that Jazz, Ufone and Zong secured frequencies for next-generation mobile services. During the allocation stage, Jazz secured 190 MHz, Ufone secured 180 MHz, and Zong secured 110 MHz across different bands.

Jazz, Zong and Ufone Secure 5G Spectrum

The auction included spectrum in several bands, including 700 MHz, 2,300 MHz, 2,600 MHz and 3,500 MHz. According to PTA, the total spectrum sold reached 480 MHz, while the original target was 597 MHz.

Jazz emerged as the largest buyer in the auction, securing the biggest share of spectrum. Industry officials have also said that telecom operators have placed orders for equipment needed to launch 5G services in Pakistan. Some operators have already started limited testing in selected areas where 5G equipment has been installed.

iPhone Users May Miss Early 5G Benefits

The expected delay in Apple’s 5G activation means iPhone users in Pakistan may not be able to use 5G immediately, even after telecom companies begin offering services. This could create a gap between Android and iPhone users during the early phase of Pakistan’s 5G rollout.

For now, the availability of 5G in Pakistan will depend on three key factors: telecom network rollout, handset compatibility and official device-level support. While telecom operators are moving ahead with infrastructure deployment, Apple’s support remains an important requirement for iPhone users.

Conclusion

Pakistan is preparing for a major shift in mobile internet technology after the successful 5G spectrum auction. However, iPhone users may have to wait longer than Android users to experience 5G connectivity.

Apple is expected to enable 5G support for Pakistani iPhone users in 2027 after reviewing the local market size. Until then, 5G access in Pakistan is likely to remain limited to supported Android devices and selected network coverage areas.
