iPhone 18 Series Could See Major Price Hike Due to Rising Memory Costs

iPhone 18 Series Could Become Apple’s Most Expensive Lineup Yet

iPhone 18 Series Could Become Apple’s Most Expensive Lineup Yet

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 series may arrive with a major price increase, making it one of the most expensive iPhone lineups the company has ever launched.

New estimates suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro could start at around $1,299, while the price may climb to $1,399 if Apple adds more expensive hardware upgrades.

For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro with 256GB storage was priced at $1,099 in the United States. If the new estimates prove accurate, buyers could see a price jump of $200 to $300 on the next Pro model.

Rising Memory Costs May Push iPhone Prices Higher

The expected increase is mainly linked to the ongoing memory shortage, which has pushed DRAM and storage costs sharply higher.

Apple has not officially confirmed pricing for the iPhone 18 lineup. However, estimates from research firm TechInsights suggest that Apple’s production costs have increased significantly compared with the previous generation.

According to the estimates, the 12GB DRAM used in the iPhone 17 Pro cost Apple around $39. For the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, the same amount of memory is now expected to cost around $145.

Storage costs have also increased. The 256GB storage chip, which reportedly cost around $13 last year, is now estimated to cost nearly $51.

iPhone 18 Pro Manufacturing Cost Could Reach $726

Due to higher memory and storage prices, Apple’s estimated manufacturing cost for the base iPhone 18 Pro could rise to around $726.

In comparison, the estimated manufacturing cost of the base iPhone 17 Pro was around $582.

This increase puts pressure on Apple’s pricing strategy. If the company wants to maintain a similar profit margin, it may need to increase retail prices for the iPhone 18 Pro series.

Expected iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Prices

TechInsights estimates that Apple earned around a 47% gross profit margin on the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro, which launched at $1,099.

To maintain a similar margin, Apple would need to price the iPhone 18 Pro close to $1,371. After typical pricing adjustments, the model could launch at around $1,299, which would still reduce Apple’s gross margin to nearly 44%.

The price could go even higher if Apple introduces a new variable-aperture camera system. Rumors suggest that this upgraded camera hardware may cost at least 50% more than the current camera setup.

If that happens, the iPhone 18 Pro could start at around $1,399, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max may move closer to $1,499.

What This Means for Buyers in Pakistan

If Apple increases iPhone prices globally, buyers in Pakistan are also expected to face significantly higher prices.

Since Apple does not have an official retail or manufacturing presence in Pakistan, local buyers usually depend on imported units. This means any global price increase is likely to be passed on to Pakistani consumers, along with import duties, PTA taxes, and local market margins.

As a result, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could become even more expensive in Pakistan compared with previous models.

Apple Has Not Confirmed Final Prices Yet

It is important to note that Apple has not officially announced the iPhone 18 series prices. The current figures are based on early cost estimates and market reports.

Final prices may depend on memory supply, component costs, camera upgrades, exchange rates, and Apple’s global pricing strategy at the time of launch.
