Lahore Basant Drives Rs 54 Crore Kite Sales in 3 days
Basant Boosts Kite Market in Lahore as Sales Cross Rs 540 Million in Three Days
Lahore: Kite sellers in the city reported brisk business during the three days of Basant, with an estimated over Rs 540 million worth of kites and strings sold across local markets.
According to market details, more than 40 million kites and strings were sold in Lahore during the three-day period. Traders said demand surged as Basant approached, leading to strong sales and noticeable price hikes, especially on the third day.
A spokesperson for the Parangrosh Anjuman stated that on the final day of purchasing alone, over 500,000 kites and more than 10,000 large kites were sold. The spokesperson added that limited supply contributed to a sharp increase in prices by the third day.
Market sources reported that one-and-a-half tawa kites were sold for around Rs 650, while one tawa kites were priced at Rs 450 and Rs 250, depending on quality. Larger kites also saw higher rates, with two-piece kites selling between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,000, and four-piece kites priced in the range of Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.
In terms of daily turnover, traders said approximately Rs 16 million worth of kites and strings were sold on the first day, Rs 18 million on the second day, and nearly Rs 20 million on the third day. Despite strong sales, vendors noted that shortages in supply pushed prices upward as Basant drew closer.
Market representatives said the surge in activity highlighted the continued popularity of Basant-related traditions, even as rising prices and limited availability posed challenges for buyers.
