The Vice Chancellor University of Okara Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, along with his faculty, visited a nearby village yesterday as part of the UO’s Community Outreach Program. He sensitized the local community on the importance of higher education and motivated them to send their children, especially girls, to the university.
Addressing to the gathering of farmer and laborer families, Dr Zakar told that it was his mandate to work for the promotion of higher education at the grassroots level.
He said, “The UO is not based on the traditional business model. Our gates are open for the common people and we aim to take to the university every single adult of the vicinity villages”.
He further told that the UO administration was preparing a competent cadre of students to cater the needs of the contemporary industry.
“We shall strive for the betterment of this region through education”, said the VC.
At the end of the event, the UO teachers conducted a survey among the villagers to collect real insights and perspectives on how to improve the higher education sector of the region.
According to the university spokesperson, the Community Outreach Program will be extended to more villages and slums in the coming weeks.
