Chinaโ€™s Sinohydro will build a run-of-the-river hydropower plant in Chitral, KP to produce 82MWs, or 380 GWh of clean energy per annum at the cost of $200 million. The Turtonas-Uzghor hydropower project will be executed by Uzghor Hydropower Pvt. Ltd., a consortium of Chinaโ€™s hydropower giant Sinohydro and Pakistanโ€™s Sachal Group.

The project site is located five kilometres away from the existing 108MWs Golen Gol HPP on Golen Gol River, a tributary of Mastuj river in Pakistanโ€™s north-most district of Chitral. Chitral is adjacent to Pakistanโ€™s Gilgit-Baltistan region, which borders China, CEN reported.

The project will be completed in 4 years after the commencement of the civil works. The Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) has already approved the project design, feasibility study, and financial proposal of the project.
