The Punjabi Culture Day was commemorated at the University of Okara (UO) with students wearing cultural outfits and performing a range of traditional activities to highlight the importance of Punjabi language, customs, literature and art.
The UO’s Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA) arranged cultural performances where the students of Cultural Society demonstrated poetry, speeches, songs and Bangra.
The Vice Chancellor,of University of Okara  Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mubin, addressed to the students and encouraged them to never forsake their cultural roots. He said that he had travelled all over the world and concluded that Pakistan possessed an enriched and diversified culture. He further told that the societies which forsake their culture had perished.
Talking about the Punjabi Literature, he argued, “There are soulful moral lessons in the poetry of the great Punjabi poets and the folklores of the writers. We should consume their cultural products in order to know our rich history and traditions.”
Stressing on the importance of multiculturalism, Prof. Mubin told, “While celebrating one culture, we should not undermine other cultures. Instead, we should celebrate the differences and create a pluralistic society where tolerance and acceptance for all prevails.”
During the event, the students performed Bangra as well and they presented a traditional Punjabi Shawl to the VC. The organizers included Dr. Shoaib Saleem, DSA, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Additional DSA, and Dr. Abdul Malik Sultan, Additional DSA II.
