Pakistan Airports Authority Begins Work on New Airport Plan
The Pakistan Airports Authority has formally launched the feasibility study, master planning and detailed design services for the proposed Greenfield Airport in Sukkur, marking an important step toward improving aviation infrastructure in upper Sindh. The kick-off meeting for the project was held on Wednesday, bringing together senior officials, consultants, regional stakeholders and representatives from the business community.
The project is being developed by the Pakistan Airports Authority in collaboration with an international and local consultancy joint venture. Germany-based M/s M2P Consulting GmbH is leading the consortium as the lead consultant, while M/s Leit-Werk Limited from the United Kingdom is part of the project as a foreign expert. Local firms M/s Indus Associated Consultants Lahore and M/s Cosmic Engineering Consultants Islamabad are also included in the consultancy team.
Senior PAA Officials Attend Kick-Off Meeting
The meeting was chaired by Director General Pakistan Airports Authority, Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed. Deputy Director General Works and Development Sumair Saeed, Director Planning and Development Ghulam Abbas Sheikh, and other senior officials also attended the session.
During the meeting, consultants briefed participants on the complete work plan for the proposed airport. The plan includes feasibility assessments, master planning and design development. Stakeholders also discussed the project’s role in regional development and the need to align the airport with future economic and connectivity requirements.
New Airport Expected to Support Trade and Tourism
Officials and business leaders welcomed the proposed Greenfield Airport project, saying that it could become a major development for Sukkur and nearby areas. The airport is expected to improve regional connectivity, support business movement, attract investment and promote tourism in upper Sindh.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, the proposed airport is envisioned as a modern and sustainable aviation facility that can help strengthen trade, investment and economic growth across Sukkur and surrounding regions.
The launch of feasibility and design work is an early but important milestone. Once completed, the study and planning phases will provide a clearer roadmap for the construction and development of the new airport.
