The ramp outside the Bank Al Habib Farid Town branch in Sahiwal has turned into an “accident site.” The ramp has been torn down for several days, bricks are protruding from the bottom, and a small, unsafe iron frame has been placed, which is being called a “temporary “ramp”—but in fact it is a “trap” in which citizens are getting stuck and falling. A small and dangerous iron ramp has been temporarily installed by the bank, which not only causes slippage but is also inaccessible to citizens using wheelchairs or crutches. In recent days, three elderly people have had their legs injured, while women and children have also been injured. Screams and cries for help have become a daily routine in front of the bank, but the bank management remains a completely silent spectator with a heart of stone. Bank security guards signal people to climb onto the iron slip, as if they are moths balancing on an iron wire. Senior citizens try to climb it, stumble, and fall to the ground several times. People say that this is not the bank’s indifference but criminal negligence. A victimized woman said, “Do we come to the bank to deposit money or to risk our lives? If someone dies someday, who will be responsible?” An elderly citizen said angrily, “The bank earns lakhs of rupees every day but is not ready to build a safe ramp.” The bank staff repeats the same sentence in response to every complaint, “The work will be done soon,” but there are no workers, no work, and no sense of responsibility! Citizens have demanded immediate action from the Deputy Commissioner of Sahiwal, the Banking Ombudsman, and the State Bank.
