A two-day International Conference on Recent Innovations in Plant Sciences & Natural Products was organized at the University of Okara by Department of Botany. An array of national and foreign scholars and researchers participated in the moot. 80 researchers from 15 universities presented their papers in the parallel sessions.
The Patron-in-Chief of the conference was UOโ€™s Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad, who, in his special message, congratulated the organizers for the success of the event and vowed to support such initiatives for the promotion of the culture of research and innovation at the campus.
The Conference Chair, Dr Faheem Arshad, Chairman Department of Botany, said in the opening ceremony, โ€œConferences create an atmosphere and opportunities for academic and industrial collaborations and broaden studentsโ€™ exposure.โ€
An exhibition of natural products was also part of the moot. The university students as well as organizations working on herbal products place a total of 50 stalls in the exhibition.
The faculty members of the Botany including Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Dr Nida and Dr Naila Mukhtar played key part in the management of the event.
The prominent international speakers included Prof Dr Omer Kilick, Prof Dr Christian Betzel, Prof Dr Mariusz Mojzych, Prof Dr Waseem Ahmed, Dr Mary E. Barkwoth, Dr Khawar Jabran and Dr Abdual Shakoor Chaudhary. These scholars hailed from various top-ranked universities of the world.
The conference concluded with a massive plantation drive at the Botanical Garden of the university.
