Budget 2025-26: Good news for automobile fans.

The forth coming budget for fiscal year 2025-26 is expected to see a major fall in vehicle pricing, as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has encouraged Pakistan’s government to lift the prohibition on commercial vehicle imports.

According to reports, the IMF has advised permitting used vehicle imports to improve market competitiveness and make inexpensive vehicles more accessible to customers. Allowing the import of three to five-year-old vehicles is under consideration, and the legislation must be completed by July.

According to Finance Ministry officials, the present Import Order 2022 prohibits the import of automobiles older than three years; however, this policy will be changed in accordance with IMF criteria. This action is part of Pakistan’s staff-level agreement with the IMF on the budget, which must also be approved by parliament.

According to officials, permitting vehicle imports will undoubtedly have a significant negative impact on the local auto industry. Vehicle and component makers are already under financial strain, and this move may exacerbate their problems. However, this is good news for customers because the availability of imported vehicles is anticipated to drive down local market costs.

With the predicted changes in auto import policy in the 2019 budget, local and international investors are watching for the government’s next moves.
