Free milk for children in Punjab, packets started being stolen from schools
Different approaches are being tried to eliminate or reduce malnutrition among children around the world. In this regard, the Government of Punjab started the pilot project of School Nutrition Program from Dera Ghazi Khan on September 5, 2024 under which free milk will be provided to children up to primary school.
The program is currently launched in three districts of Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh. Various incidents are being reported in many schools while providing milk to children, after which the project is being criticized on social media. There are reports of milk packets being stolen from many schools, while a school teacher has been suspended due to the theft of milk packets in one school.
On September 5, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz gave a speech while officially inaugurating the school nutrition program at a school in Dera Ghazi Khan.
In his address, he said that ‘however far DG Khan is from Lahore, I am not far from you, I think for all children like a mother thinks, these children are VIPs for me.’
Maryam Nawaz said that school nutrition program is being started from Dera Ghazi Khan. “We have introduced a free milk program for children up to class five.”
The Chief Minister of Punjab said that she is trying to end malnutrition among children.
