The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has informed the federal government of its reservations about electronic voting machines (EVMs), despite raising doubts about their effectiveness.

According to reports, ECP members requested that the MoST brief the commission on alternative voting arrangements in the event that EVMs and the e-voting system fail, as the RTS did in the 2018 elections.

ECP representatives claimed that the production and maintenance costs of EVMs would be a massive burden on the national budget, and that replacing manual voting with automated voting in general elections would cost at least $6.5 billion.
