The salaried class may get relief in the budget 2025-26
The federal government has hinted at providing relief to the salaried class in the budget for the new fiscal year. In a briefing given to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, the Chairman FBR said that they are considering providing relief to the salaried class in the new budget. Mahmoud Langrial says that the budget 2025-26 for the next fiscal year will be difficult due to the IMF program. Due to the IMF program, the budget for the next fiscal year is difficult in terms of targets, and it will not be easy to provide tax relief to any sector. Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmoud Langrial told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance that two or three major proposals, including relief to the salaried class, are under consideration.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb told the briefing via video link that the Ministry of Finance is preparing a long-term tax policy including the new budget 2025-26. The FBR is focused on tax collections. He informed about the recognition of economic performance by partners and rating agencies during his recent visit to the United States.
He said that the meetings emphasized privatization of government institutions and reforms in various sectors. The Finance Committee of the National Assembly took notice of the non-payment of minimum monthly wages of Rs 37,000 to employees and laborers in government institutions. Lists were sought from the Ministry of Finance.
In the meeting of the Standing Committee, member Agha Rafiullah revealed that the law of minimum monthly wages of Rs 37,000 to employees in various government institutions, including the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, was not being implemented.
Taking notice of the matter, the committee sought a detailed report from the Ministry of Finance within 30 days. The Finance Minister assured to talk to the relevant ministers in this regard. The Pakistan Dairy Association demanded that the 18 percent GST on packaged milk be reduced to a single digit of 5 percent. FBR officials assured to consider the demand for tax reduction.
